ALUMNI - LARRY BENNETT
Larry Bennett is the son of Jerry and Harriet Bennett
and “grew up” in our church. He is currently Chief of Optometry at the
Mountain Home VA Medical Center, Johnson City, TN. He has gone on
several medical missions trip with support and prayers from both our
church and his church in Johnson City.
Larry was part of a group of 30+ medical personnel who
went on a May 2002 missions trip to Mexico. The group went to the Good
Samaritan Clinic, a rural medical clinic in the village of Tatoxcac,
in the state of Puebla. The clinic is operated by the Mexican
Methodist Church. It is staffed by Mexican volunteers with support
from periodic mission groups who provide otherwise unavailable
services.
Our church provided financial and prayer support for
Larry as well as assisting in collecting and sorting glasses. Donated
glasses were first sorted and broken or scratched lens pairs were
discarded. The remaining glasses were then washed twice, the
prescriptions were measured and they were sorted, bagged and boxed. As
a result of this process volunteers in Enon and Johnson City provided
Larry with 1200 pairs of glasses to take on the mission trip. Larry
saw over 300 patients during his 2002 mission
trip and plans to go again in 2003.
